Located in the heart of Waikiki, on the first floor of the Outrigger Waikiki Paradise Hotel, this modern venue, with bright, airy interior and open kitchen, serves authentic Italian cuisine, generously seasoned with Aloha!
Overseen by executive chef Hiro Mimura (of sister restaurant Taormina) Appetito’s food menu marries traditional Italian fare with local island ingredients and more than a little Hawaiian magic. Central to its success is the select range of Pizza Napoletana that undoubtedly ranks amongst the finest on O’ahu. Hand-stretched then cooked in a kiawe wood-fired oven, these delectable doughy delights are worth a visit on their own! Toppings range from Italian classics like Salami, Margherita and Quatro Formaggi, to locally-inspired Shrimp Pesto and our personal favorite, Korean Yakiniku - marinated short rib with mozzarella, kimchee, green onion and gochujang mayonnaise.
But pizza only accounts for a fraction of Appetito’s food offer. An extensive range of antipasti includes Naomi’s spicy meatballs (named for Tokyo-born Chef de Cuisine Naomi Ito), Beef Carpaccio, Tuscan Hummus, and the curiously named Hawaiian King Kong (Portugese sausage with yellow zucchini, Brussels sprouts and cheese sauce). Entrees feature traditional homemade Bolognese, Lemon Chicken and 16oz Ribeye Steak, and there’s a section dedicated entirely to seafood in which the amazing Lobster Mac & Cheese stands out. Just as in Italy where food is enjoyed at a leisurely pace with plates passed around the table and the conversation flowing as freely as the wine, here the menu is designed to encourage that same kind of dining experience.
As well as delicious food, Appetito is known for its stellar service and carefully curated wine list. With one hundred plus selections available by the bottle or by the glass, plenty are perfect for pairing with dishes on the menu or enjoying on their own at the vibrant bar. A good way to acquaint yourself with the restaurant’s drinks menu is during the popular (and often lively!) Happy Hour (daily 15:00 - 18:00), when $30 bottles of wine, $10 cocktails, and a range of Hawaiian (and international) craft beers are served, alongside selected small plates from the menu.
