Rigo

If you’re looking for an easygoing dining destination in the heart of Honolulu’s foodie district, look no further than Rigo. Opened in 2019 by the Japanese owned Huge Corporation, this charming eighty-cover restaurant, with a stylish, modern interior and floor to ceiling windows that allow light to stream in, offers a unique hybrid menu of traditional Spanish and Italian classics touched with contemporary international flair. Casual and cozy at lunch, upscale and elegant at dinner, Rigo has seen significant review and awards success since it opened its doors, and continues to impress diners new and old with its incredible food, relaxed ambience and friendly, attentive service.

In contrast to the streamlined menus of many restaurants, Rigo’s extensive card includes all of your favorite Spanish and Italian dishes along with some local speciality seafood options and a few surprises! Taco Pincho de Cerdo (pork belly tacos) and Argentinian Red Shrimp and Watercress Salad are our highlights from a good selection of tapas, and the house Crostini (toasted bread with prosciutto, papaya, mascarpone and macadamia nut blossom honey) - one of a number of Italian small plates or appetizers - is amongst the best on the island.

Of the entrées (split into grill, pasta, rice and pizza categories) the Fresh Grilled Catch of the Day with Scallops, Colorado Lamb Chops and Seafood Paella dished should not be missed, and head chef Masa Yoda’s choice of seasonal specials (updated four times each year) are nothing short of superb. Fresh rigatoni and spaghetti (as well as a gluten free version of the latter) is offered with a range of traditional sauces and a wide variety of add-ons including a house-selected mushroom medley, chicken, pancetta, Kaua’i shrimp and king crab. Similarly, any of the popular Neapolitan-style pizzas can be customized with your favorite toppings such as zucchini, jalapeños, prosciutto, salami, truffle oil, etc. There’s also an excellent dessert card, an extensive wine list that includes a good selection available by the glass and a host of lunchtime specials that changes every month.

Open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:30 until 15:00, and daily from 16:30 until 22:30, Rigo’s creative culinary concept - delivered at surprisingly affordable prices - coupled with an ambiance of relaxed elegance, make this a must-visit dining destination for foodies of any persuasion…
